Recidivism V1 Why play these games of separation? What will 20 years teach that 3 years can't? You push them into economic depravation then you grab them by the family and tear them apart! You chuck 'em all together in the - institution, let them all teach each other the way. You rationalize your retribution by convincing the nation that your fears are sane. Recidivism shows that it's a living delusion, every bit as defective as the lives that it takes. Flog a dead horse with your faulty solution, the jailing is failing, the deterrent is fake. Why invest in this machine of oppression, don't you know you kill your precious economy? Just another villian adding to your collection, adding to the trend of our inefficiency. Chorus Point your finger (from the comfort of your throne) Makes it easy (when the life is not your own) Tell yourself (that you're proud of what you've done) Live in ignorance, believe that you don't contribute to recidivism. V2 Brand 'em all with the mark of the sinner, make sure they're labelled until they die. There are no second chances here! Reduce their potential for the rest of their lives. You ignore the collateral pain, it doesn't matter how many suffer in tow. Define the sinners as the one's we should blame in this perceptually narrowed inhumanity show. You Decimate their social value, they don't deserve a healthy sense of worth. Don't believe anything that they tell you, we can NEVER forgive them if we want to save Earth! Onward with all the structural violence, rehabilitation is not our game, there's nothing wrong with our broken society, (just so long as you can't touch our name! Hahahahaha!) Chorus Point your finger (from the comfort of your throne) Makes it easy (when the lives are not your own) Tell yourself (that you're proud of what you've done) Live in ignorance, believe that you don't contribute to recidivism. ------------------------------------------- Notes: (Fear - Anger) This is a fearful, angry song. It's a sarcastic exploration of the conveyed/perceived headspace of the criminal justice system. The protagonist is fuming and venting, they want the system to think about the message it's sending. The protagonist has become fearful of the system's own fear reaction. This song resumes something like part of the journey we experience during the grieving process. It segways into song 09 which calls out another type of fear (vanity). Since this song points out a damaging fear reaction pattern in our primary 'community fear reduction' system, it seemed to make sense to look at how our leadership system is designed to over-inflate egos thus encouraging terrible leadership decisions in the next track. The very very first rough draft of this song imagines it as a heavy metal drum&bass track.
